The Arm Chair Pontificator is a person who loves talking about himself in the third person. This makes him feel as if he is actually important to more people in the world than just himself. He’s had many jobs over the years. He’s been head of the CIA, the FBI, and the NAACP. Additionally, in the early 70’s, he lived in Moscow and ran the KGB. Though he’s an atheist, The Arm Chair Pontificator was Pope for ten years from 1984 to 1994. He gave it up, however, because of a severe allergy to Italian food and moved, from the Vatican, to New York City where he instantly became Mayor, a job he holds to this day. He thanks you for reading this blog, and wishes to remind you to be careful when speaking about yourself in the third person. It can make you sound quite silly if you don’t do it right.
P.S. The Arm Chair Pontificator is certain this blog will get the Nobel Prize Committee to award him the first ever Nobel Prize for being brilliant in everything he says, does, and thinks. Barring that, he at least wants a Nobel Prize for helping with the advanced mathematics involved with the discovery of the Higgs boson. His faith in invisible deities tells him he earned it.
Quotes The Arm Chair Pontificator likes:
“I am not what I am.” Iago in Shakespeare’s Othello
“Not to be absolutely certain is, I think, one of the essential things in rationality.” Bertrand Russell
“Precisely because of human fallibility, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” Carl Sagan
“Ignorance is the curse of God; knowledge is the wing wherein we fly to heaven” William Shakespeare, Henry VI, part 2, act 4, scene 7, 1. 73-74
“To follow by faith alone, is to follow blindly.”
Benjamin Franklin
“Religion is like a blind man looking in a black room for a black cat that isn’t there and finding it.”Oscar Wilde
“A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.”
Albert Einstein
“An athiest is a person who has no invisible means of support.”
Aldous Huxley
“I can say with absolute certainty that I’m absolutely certain of nothing.” Goofy to Mickey Mouse, circa 1957

Hey, what do you think Andrew’s angle is? I can’t quite figure where he’s coming from.

Not really sure. He has a “word-salad” style to his writing that makes me uncertain as to whether he’s just fucking around, doesn’t “get’ it, or is just an ass. I’m certain he’ll continue to respond to you as he does not seem to be a person who can ever accept he’s wrong or has lost an argument–you know, like Ron the libertarian on his goddess of welfare and hypocrisy, Ayn Rand. I love how you took his ass apart with that argument. That dude’s a bright guy, but his right-wing nuttery on certain issues makes him the equivalent of a Christian apologist on many issues he comments on, i.e. Covid vaccines, poverty, and Ayn Rand’s bullshit.

You can almost hear the jaw hitting the ground when they read “Ayn Rand died on Social Security.” 🙂
I’ve never had so much fun writing 6 words.

AND she was on Medicare for her medical needs! No matter how much she paid into it in her lifetime, she used four times that value by retiring and using those programs as a senior citizen. I use them, too, but I’m not pontificating about how bad they are and how they’re like welfare, etc. That Ayn Rand shit and her minions, like Senator Rand Paul, truly piss me off. Hypocritical, narcissistic assholes.

Ah, on that, this is from the Snopes take:
Although Social Security is usually framed as retirement insurance (pay in while you’re working, then withdraw savings upon retirement), a 2014 article on the Ayn Rand Institute web site argues that it is a form of welfare:
I was just itching for Ron to go down this path so I could use this. Alas… will have to wait for another day 🙂

I’m sure it’ll come! Just like the apologist who can’t stop defending the gibberish in the bible, people like Ron can’t stop spouting their right-wing crap and defending it through so many mental gymnastics it makes my mind spin. Thank Jeebus for Social Security and Medicare, btw! I’d be homeless and without medical care without ’em! They are GOOD things. Even the aging Ayn Rand would’ve agreed with that! 🙂

… in another article it says she only ‘paid in’ for a tiny period, back in the bloody 1940’s!

Truly, a welfare princess! I paid into them for 40 years and I’m always terrified the gov’t will make me homeless by getting rid of them. Truly, is my plan for gas chambers and crematoriums for dealing with the aged and the poor such a bad idea? 🙂

Thank you, Jeff (inspiredbythedivine1), for your almost surreal introduction, which is palpably as facetious as it is fictitious!
Given that you have fed me a healthful dose of your choice quotes, I would like to reciprocate in kind and share with you my most favourite quotes published at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2017/10/18/the-quotation-fallacy/
Please enjoy!

Hello Jeff! I wanted to thank you again for your continued great sense of humor and support for me against rude, radical, heckling Fundamentalists and their self-righteousness. It is exhausting sometimes to try to dialogue with them in a civil manner, eh? 😉
I also wanted to wish YOU a very prosperous, peaceful, happy New Year! Forgot to do that yesterday on Allallt’s blog; sorry mate.

In my inability to keep up with multiple blogs, both those who follow me and those I try to follow — the numbers are in the 100’s, yikes! — and do it sometimes simultaneously, I didn’t understand WHY I wasn’t already following yours! INEXCUSABLE I screamed in my head! So apologies I’m so darn late! LOL

Thank you for your understanding Jeff. I am not the most proficient multi-tasker once the number of subjects/people reaches say… 15-20, my classrooms of elementary or middle-school students. Hah! Even then it’s smoke-n-mirrors with a magic trick here & there from my top hat for diversion of what REALLY is going on behind the green Oz-curtain! 😛
Anyway, I know I won’t win a “Nobel Prize” like you. 😉

I’m awarding myself a Pulitzer this year as well, just to let you know. On another topic: I think SoM is perhaps one of the angriest, most unpleasant folks I’ve ever come across. I’ve great doubt he has much, or any, true joy in his life. Kinda pity him in a way. Won’t engage him cause he’s an a-hole ‘n all, but I do kinda pity ’em.

In my first 2-3 introductions & questions to those types, I TRULY do give them the common courtesy & dignity any human deserves. However, with some/many it just will never work if you are “diabolically opposed” to their own world-view. LOL

I think those 2 are just looking for people to vent their anger onto. Name calling, insulting tone in their comments, and an air of false-superiority because they are “Christians” is all they are capable of doing. Oddly, they should dislike each other as SoM is a Catholic and CS is a “TruChristian” evangelical type. You know, the kind of “TruChristian” who hates Catholics because they’re “Papists”. The amount of bile and methane that comes from the two of them could not convince me more of how twisted and warped their idea of “Christianity” is. Their ideology is not only ugly, I find it dangerous and demeaning to decent people everywhere. In other words, I truly do not care for either of them. $Amen$

Hi Professor Taboo,
Civility is wasted when logic cannot prevail. I completely understand your experiences and predicaments, having been through similar ones myself. Thank you, Jeff (inspiredbythedivine1) for supporting Professor Taboo.
Sometimes, the best strategy is to direct those folks to some academic websites dealing with science, logic, philosophy and atheism, as well as the pitfalls and fallacies of the design argument.

I do. I just don’t want to broadcast it on here. I only use the one and, as I’m a lazy bastard, don’t want to set up a 2nd one. If however, you have 2ndary address, give it here, and I’ll send you mine via that address. I also won’t publish the comment you send it on, so even your secondary address won’t get attention you don’t want. I will eventually set up a secondary address though. Eventually.

All of the folks he’s sent my way have seemed great and have fascinating blogs. Sam Harris is the guy who turned me on to neuroscience. If I had it do over again, I’d definitely work on getting an advanced degree in it.

Mak is one awesome guy. I am passionate about neuroscience. Behavioral neuroscientists, Michael Persinger and Todd Murphy got me hooked. They answered questions I’d been asking and seeking pretty much my whole adult life. Later, I was turned on to Sam Harris after reading “The End of Faith”.

What rocks about Behavioral neuroscience is it actually is a SCIENCE. Tangible, empirical evidence is being sought out by those studying it to support or exclude the hypotheses made. This is unlike the shit “Biological” Psychiatry pulls were evidence to support its fundamental hypotheses are assumed to be facts even though no evidence was ever searched for to test them in the first place. I have a lot of issues with that field even being remotely considered a science, let alone a medical science.

I think we have a new definition for fundamentalist.
Hat tip to Mak, blame him for the fresh like and follow.

Will do. And thanks for the follow. You are right in saying the definition for fundamentalist is new. I am now the only fundamentalist whose beliefs are fundamentally true about any and everything I say. I’m so right, as a matter of fact, that next weekend I’m going down to South America to start converting small towns to my way of thinking. I’ll burn down any town that doesn’t completely convert, and arm those that do with an armed war drone or two. In a few years, I’ll be emperor of the world!!!
