On Trump Supporters

I Look A Lot Like This Guy With Shorter Hair

As a middle-aged, Midwestern, white male with a heavy Chicago accent and a look about me that shouts, “TRUMP VOTER,” I get a lot of similar people, who truly are Trump voters, sharing their views with me.  I silently sit and listen to them because it is very informative.  Now, granted, I do not know EVERY Trump voter from EVERY part of the country, but I do feel I’ve got a pretty good understanding of the thought processes involved in the ones I do know, and it isn’t pretty.  There’s a sense of entitlement in them that makes them feel rage that America is becoming more diverse and accepting of said diversity.  There’s a need, a rage-filled need, to win and destroy all those they see as different from them by any means necessary.  As long as THEY come out ahead, in their minds at least, whatever Trump does to assure victory is fine.  There is a deep, deep underlining racism and sense of “whites being persecuted” in them.  There is far more of this than polls and the media say.

Few people will say blatantly racist things to TV reporters or in poll questions, but, while having a few beers with a perceived fellow Trump supporter, the “n” word and other such words are bantered about freely.  Believe me, they are.  The rage and sense of white entitlement in these folks is difficult to describe without seeming like I’m exaggerating.  I’m not.  Since 2015, I’ve spoken, or been spoken to, by dozens upon dozens of Trump supporting white, Midwestern men, and the song is always the same. “It’s THOSE PEOPLE’S fault the country is awful  The Mexicans, the blacks on welfare, and the illegal immigrant workers who steal our jobs are the cause of ALL my woes, and they MUST be stopped!”  They tell me.  “It’s Trump and Trump alone who can save us from this crap!  He tells it like it is.  He’s a straight shooter! I LOVE the guy.  Who cares what he does privately.  He’s there representing us, the forgotten white majority in America.”  No. No, he’s not.  Trump is using the hate, anger and confusion inside these people to justify his efforts to make himself absolute dictator of America, and, worse of all, the GOP is helping him.  They need the votes of his supporters to help them win their elections.  Hitler did this. Mussolini did this.  Tyrants do this.

And It Happens To Be Right

I see the diehard Trump supporter as a lost cause, an obstacle we unfortunately need to overcome to keep what happened in pre-WW2 Europe from happening here.  We can only do that by voting and convincing others, who feel uncomfortable about what is happening, to vote too.  Every vote matters.  We must make every peaceful, legal effort we can to free ourselves from the tyranny Trump and the GOP represent.  I will not live in a theocracy of any kind, Muslim OR Christian.  I REFUSE to have the so-called morals of “The Moral Majority” crammed down my throat.  I will not quietly sit by while the rich continue to suck the life from our nation by refusing to pay taxes and by developing a welfare system for themselves that makes Uncle Sam act as their own personal Santa.  This is a war, only a psychological one at this time, but one that will only get uglier, and perhaps even violent, the longer it continues.  America is a land that was made for you AND me, not for just Trump, his supporters and their rich cronies in the GOP.   $Amen$

However, I like to share this one…so everyone can wake up.

  5. Now you see, from the outside I see true American patriots here talking about the American values which made the USA, well the USA.
These Trump supporters. These are folk who I assume have to watch every $ and yet they support a privileged, draft-dodging, financially dubious, nebulous property dealer as if he cared two straws about them! Rubes.
If they would care to read their American History They would see America was founded by a variety of folk from sundered nations and the only True Americans are those who hold true to the Melting Pot.
The Trump followers are the reason why some of the Founding Fathers were not keen on universal suffrage.

    • And he’s why the electoral college was created. It just failed to do what it was created for in this this.

    • The Founding Fathers obviously didn’t expect this sort of outcome,

    • Well, they thought it could happen. They put the electoral college in place in case a tyrannical, ego-maniac ever won, they could negate his or her elevation to President by casting their vote for an alternate candidate. Obviously, that back-fired because Clinton received 3 million more votes than Trump, but, because the electoral college voters refused to do what they are there for, a maniacal, ego-driven shit-bag now sits the White House. The electoral college needs to be eliminated, and we need to elect Presidents by a plurality of votes alone.

    • Quite so. Just because it was set up with good back then doesn’t mean it is a good idea now.
I recently came across an out-date graph describing how a candidate with more votes could still hypothetically loose the election….’Hypothetically’, the grim irony of that word now.

  6. Jeff, here’s a great classic song from 1997 you’ll surely like and is quite apropos for here. Lyrics first, then the video after…

    God is an American
    God is an American
    I’m afraid of Americans
    I’m afraid of the world
    I’m afraid I can’t help it
    I’m afraid I can’t

  9. GREAT post, Jeff. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

If I may, I’d like to repeat something I wrote on another blog …

Regrettably, I doubt very many of his supporters have a clue on what’s happening since they refuse to look beyond what the conservative pundits are feeding them. As with anything in life, the smart person will look at all viewpoints before forming opinions and/or making decisions.

  10. I think we are really screwed and it’s just a matter of time. I use to think time was our friend and after a lot of these old white guys and gals died off, things would be better and less racist, more accepting, less religious etc. but I’m not so sure now, as I see some younger people being just as terrible. The world is becoming a mean and corrupt place..not so sure there’s any turning back now. Trump has given free reign to terrible people like him and they have become emboldened and mob mentality is setting in.

  11. I could go on and on and on with all the science that SHOWS how diversity prevents all sorts of Natural diseases, infections, and large calamities. It means that one or two disasters cannot wipe out an entire civilization or species. This is also true in human embryology — more diverse the conceptions the LESS one particular genome keeps getting passed on thru the Honky-White-Arian assholes’ Christmas wreath!!! You ignorant dumb-f*cks! Did you ever ask yourselfs WHY has incestuous breeding been heavily discouraged?

And do I need to get into how social diversity improves/perfects critical-thinking skills, and raises eusociality and peace!!!!????

  14. Grand post Jeff. I love it. Have you heard about the grad student at Harvard that took a short nap in the common area of her dorm. A typical white woman other student called the police on the grad student. Why? The sleeping grad student was black. The white woman had called police on other black students. You can hear her on video claiming the black student shouldn’t be there, accusing her of being a homeless person who came in to crash in the common room. She refused to listen when the grad student tried to explain that she was a student, the white woman clearly didn’t think a black person could be one. When the police got there they demanded the ID of the black grad student. However they did not ask the ID of the white woman at all. Even after the grad student proved she lived there by opening her dorm room with the key the police still demanded to see her ID. Total white privilege by both the police and the white woman. And the white woman has a history of calling the police on black people. But she will be a Harvard educated bigot. Hugs

    • How are we ever going to heal the huge rift in this country? I can not understand racism in our country today. We know better, well most of us do. Hugs

    • The same way we ended slavery. We must think on this as a war that must be won if we are to survive. We MUST get young people and others invigorated to vote, march, and protest until the smell of racism and bigotry become such shameful things they die out. Easier said than done, I know.

    • Racism is certainly not a genetic condition or a prenatal phenomena. It is taught and replicated BY parents, family, and closed-off communities… including churches. This also means that it CAN be untaught, but that shit is much harder to change as the person ages. :/

    • Well, we have and haven’t. Often when something damaging to the overall welfare of society is revealed for what it is, and dimished (publicly) stopped and/or punished, it just regenerates itself underground in a different guise. For example, African-Americans are the most incarcerated ethnic group in America. Is imprisonment a form of slavery and cheap, free labor? Are Jim Crowe laws a subtle form of slavery?

When Jeff was mentioning Mexicans taking all of our jobs here well, what “jobs” are they referring to exactly? The hard-labor, blue-collar jobs that don’t pay a person enough to live on, much less have any health benefits. The jobs that no educated white people want to do in the first place? Are they referring to jobs at McDonalds, Wendy’s, car washes as towel-dryers, garbage collection, construction with Motor Vehicle and Highway Depts?

The propaganda and rhetoric is full of so much perfumy deception that for some/many uneducated can’t smell the BS, much less determine where the bullshit came from.

    • I agree Professor. To your question on is imprisonment slavery, yes, in our current system it is legal slavery. Start with the schools in lower income / more racially slanted to non-whites you have more security, a prison like atmosphere, less educational supplies and tools which leads to a much greater crack down on the students. The students are far more likely to go into harsher punishments for minor offences, and also in to courts. It becomes a prison pipeline of young minority children into for pay prisons. Once in prison there is a strict pay to play system of privilege and reward. The new model for profit prisons is to force prisoners in any manner possible to do a work job. That could be a job in the prison for which the prison won’t have to hire a person to do, or for a for profit company outside the prison. However the prisoner is almost forced into this position or lose privilege or other needed accommodations. The problem is the prisoners are paid little, sometimes just pennies an hour. Plus often their transportation or right to work the job is charged to them. The company they work for gets to charge full cost for their labor yet they, the prisoners, are paid next to nothing and even sometimes required to pay for the privilege to do the slave labor. They system is an over lords dream and a real cast back to the days of slavery. We do have a slave population in the USA and that is prisoners. Many who have not committed a violent crime. The majority are poor minorities who got caught with minor drug charges that white people never face. It is horribly wrong. Worse it almost forces a repeat of the offender going back into the system. Other countries have seen this, changed their systems, changed their views on prisons and have decreased their prison population drastically. Why does this country keep insisting we have nothing to learn from other countries. They have shown a better system that works, yet we ignore it. Hugs

  15. “As long as THEY come out ahead, in their minds at least, whatever Trump does to assure victory is fine.”

Bingo! Their motivation has absolutely nothing to do with ethics, morality, the rule of law, or any other justifiable principle. Winning is everything to them, or at least the perception of winning, and no cost is too high to achieve it – not even war.

For the Trump supporters who openly admit this, I have begrudging respect because they are being honest and true to themselves. For the ones who hide behind disingenuous political rhetoric and/or The Bible, I have nothing but contempt. Any person who would coyly conceal such malevolence is the human equivalent of a venomous snake.

    Outstanding post.

    • “Any person who would coyly conceal such malevolence is the human equivalent of a venomous snake.” I’m with you 100% on this. The guys who’ve been “honest” with me about their true feelings about this matter do so, I believe, because, like I mentioned, they think I’m one of the brotherhood of evil white mutants like them. I do just wish the GOP and everyone else who supports Trump would simply, like you stated, be honest about why. It’s the political and religious double speak and word bending that makes them even worse. They just want to win, and they do not care how. Though I’d still think they are traitorous pond scum, like you, I’d at least respect their honesty if they were up front about their motives. I’m honest about my utter contempt for them and about my desire to see them crushed politically under the heal of progressive government, and I’d appreciate it if they simply did the same. We all know what war we’re fighting. It’s time to fess up about it.
