“Man, I REALLY hated all 6 of those Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films.” “Christ, all NINE of those Star Wars movies are awful.” “By Odin’s beard! I truly hated all 20 of those Marvel super hero movies I’ve paid to see!” “I HATE Shakespeare, but I went to see Romeo and Juliet anyway, and I hated it.” I can not tell you the number of times I’ve heard people make comments like this. Sometimes, they make them directly to me knowing I get great enjoyment from Shakespeare, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Marvel movies. I’m literally stunned by the utter idiocy of such people. All film is subjective. People like some types of movies, and others they don’t like. If someone doesn’t like, say, Lord of the Rings movies, I get it. That’s fine. I do like them, but, for those who don’t, sitting through one of them must be sheer torture. I’m like that with the opera. Can’t stand it. So, I don’t go. But when I hear things like, “I really hated ALL of those Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. They ALL sucked, and people who like them are not as film savvy as I am, ” I think, really? So, you went to see one of these 3 hour long films, hated it; then spent your money FIVE more times on FIVE more movies that you ALREADY knew you’d hate before you saw them, and you expect me, or anyone else, to take anything you say seriously? If you are a person like this, you are an absolute fucking idiot. I mean a complete, unadulterated, fucking idiot. 
I simply am baffled by people like this. At this point in time there are more movies of EVERY kind being made all across the world–more independent films; more dramas, and more foreign, esoteric, films that make no fucking sense to me but many people do like. And, in a city like Chicago, where I live, there are numerous theaters showing all of these kinds of movies all the time. For those not living near such a theater, there are numerous streaming services that show an unlimited variety of EVERY type of movie any time you want to watch one. So, if you are one of these fucking idiots who continue to repeatedly spend your hard-earned money on movies you know before hand you’ll hate, don’t. Either see one you think you might like, or send your money to me since you seem to have an unlimited amount of it to waste on things you hate.
BTW, as a final thought on this purely idiotic behavior, if you hate jalapenos on your pizza but constantly order pizza with jalapenos then shout out, “That pizza sucked! The jalapenos ruined it,” the problem isn’t the pizza–it’s you. You’re a total, complete, fucking idiot. You’re not smarter than those who like jalapenos on their pizza, nor are you eloquent in the way you express your dislike of them. You’re simply a fucking idiot. So, please, for my sake and the sake of others throughout the universe who are not you, if you know already you don’t like a certain type movie or food, don’t spend your money on it. Spend it on something you like, or, at least, if you simply MUST spend it on something you already know you don’t like, spend some cash having your jaw wired shut first so I, and others, won’t have to be bothered by your idiotic banter explaining that, once again, you didn’t like the thing you already knew you wouldn’t like. Idiots. There are far too many of them in the world.

As for the jalapenos, well, that’s more a matter of individual taste-buds, and what do you enjoy to eat, in matter of taste there’s no arguments, the Romans used to said, and I guess some people may use it for their personal taste in movies, books, and whatever they like.
Still, is reasonable to think, is just an excuse for bad taste. 🙂

Well, you don’t agree with me if you think said movies suck. I like them. Movies are subjective, and people’s opinions on them vary. What I simply can not comprehend is why anyone who thinks they suck would repeatedly go to see them, over and over again, only to say, “They suck.” Said person’s opinion is one of a class “A” chowder head, and they need to see a good psychiatrist. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is the classic definition of insanity. Opinions vary greatly on movies, foods, and taste in hair styles; that’s what makes life grand. However, if you already know something sucks, in your opinion, and you repeatedly do or see that thing over and over again, not only are you insane, you obviously love to waste your money, and you’re an idiot to boot.

Anyone who has read the Tolkien series will tell you the movies were done extraordinarily well. I have never seen a movie capture the essence of the book like this series. Just amazing IMO. Anyone who would hate on this series needs to stick to the lowbrow stuff they are more familiar with. Like reality tv.
You are right though, if all you can do is hate on something, and then purposely spend time with that something, the problem isn’t what you dislike, the problem is you.

Superbly said! Could not agree more. I, too, like Batman v Superman. I loved Wonder Woman, too. I’m a huge comic book collecting geek because I LOVE the things. Have for decades. The “fan boy” mentality of bashing hard the thing you supposedly like most is a sheer sign of mental illness, as is this “Marvel v DC” nonsense I see so much of. Idiots. I actually enjoy this stuff; that’s why I read and watch it–to escape and have fun for a few hours. I like some more than others, but it’s a pure joy that there’s so much to choose from. Too many idjits in the world confuse their vicious and venomous opinions as intelligent facts when all they are is diarrhea of the mouth and brain.

I agree this is a big of a return to a ‘golden age’ for comics. I switched from Marvel to DC, just ‘because’ and returned to my roots of 55 years ago…Dah-da-dah- SUPER-man!! (and Batman, Wonder Woman and possibly The Flash an’ the Justice League… and I’ll stop now my wallet is starting to cry)

I’ll freely confess I had misgivings about the second Thor movie, and went anyways. In my defense, the motive was hope. And in the end Hemsworth’s performance saved the thing – he brings that irreverent, fun element to the character of Thor that carried the so-so plot. And of course Hiddleston’s Loki is always worth a movie ticket. 😛
Ragnarok? Same motive. Hope. And boy, did that one deliver!

People’s taste in movies is very interesting as is how intense they’re opinions about them are. I try very hard never to recommend movies for this reason. I simply enjoy movies too much to haggle over them, though I do miss watching Siskel and Ebert do so on their old show–when they were alive. Watching them argue now would be quite dull as they’ve certainly both decayed quite a bit and surely must now look and smell like walking shit. 🙂

I will eventually. My tastes are all over the fucking place, however. I LOVE 70’s and 80’s Italian zombie/horror movies and exploitation films which very often offend the shit out of most rational human beings who see them, so, like I say, ya’ can’t always go on what I might like.

Back in the 90s, my best friend had seen both Armageddon and Deep Impact – two similar films about huge asteroids and comets threatening to destroy life on Earth. I asked him which was better. He said most definitely Armageddon with Bruce Willis. So, I took his recommendation and saw the film in a theater. But, I absolutely hated it. Besides the egregiously lowbrow style of the film, I just couldn’t remotely believe that NASA would hand over a Space Shuttle to a bunch of oil worker roughnecks for any purpose let alone to save human civilization. Later, I saw Deep Impact on TV and enjoyed it more because it was much more thoughtful at least. Anyway, I gave my friend a lot of grief about his recommendation which I later regretted. It was all a matter of personal taste.
I don’t know what the answer is. People feel compelled to express their subjective opinions, I guess… and, movie critics get paid to do so. C’est la vie!

No. Do I enjoy watching it? Yes. Why? I’m nuts. I try VERY hard not to recommend movies. I might say I liked something, but in no way is that a recommendation for any one else to see it. As adults, make up your own mind. I hate this thing of, “You said I should see it! I hated it! You’re stupid and I’m smart! End of story.” So I try very hard to tell people to spend their money on things they know they’ll enjoy. Life’s too fuckin’ hard and too fuckin’ short to think you’ve got it all figured out because your taste in movies is far superior to the rest of humankind’s.
