Shame

abuse

It was because I didn’t want to

Trouble

You that I didn’t ask you for

Help

I was far too

Ashamed

To do that

It was because they

Yelled

Hit

Blamed

That I felt

I was

Bad

I was too

Ashamed

To feel anything

Else

It was because when,

Finally,

I asked you for

Help

You said it was

Me

Who was

Sick,

Not them,

That I took my

Life

There was too much

Shame

To do anything

Else

  1. Very powerful and emotional. I’ve read it before, but it just hit me as much as the first time I read it.

  2. As a suicide survivor, I can feel the impact of this quite strongly.

And when I say survivor (it’s a thing) I mean I was damn lucky she didn’t take me with her.

I usually don’t care for things related to the topic, but this has an insight to the the cycle of abuse, that does indeed take people to that edge.

  5. Thank you Jeff. This one has words I hope many will listen to. I re-posted it on my Toy Box. Hopefully this will reach others and we will all join in helping. Hugs

  7. That was moving my friend, very well written and the complete opposite to what you usually write.

  8. I think it’s sad. 😥 but it’s also true–sometimes, people are abused and then become like their abuser. But the abused can’t see that at the time. It takes a lot of work to heal from being abused.
