It was because I didn’t want to
Trouble
You that I didn’t ask you for
Help
I was far too
Ashamed
To do that
It was because they
Yelled
Hit
Blamed
That I felt
I was
Bad
I was too
Ashamed
To feel anything
Else
It was because when,
Finally,
I asked you for
Help
You said it was
Me
Who was
Sick,
Not them,
That I took my
Life
There was too much
Shame
To do anything
Else
Very powerful and emotional. I’ve read it before, but it just hit me as much as the first time I read it.

As a suicide survivor, I can feel the impact of this quite strongly.
And when I say survivor (it’s a thing) I mean I was damn lucky she didn’t take me with her.
I usually don’t care for things related to the topic, but this has an insight to the the cycle of abuse, that does indeed take people to that edge.

I appreciate your reply. I understand the topic all too well and the emotions that are connected to it.

Are you planning to cut off one of your fingers? Don’t do it, it is not your fault you have a lightning bolt in your hand 😛

Naw. Just gonna soak it in paint thinner to see if that removes the bolt. 🙂 BTW, I’m not the speaker of this poem. 🙂

I liked it the first time, just trying to be clever

Me too. Hard to be clever with a bolt of lightening glued to your hand. 🙂 Hurts brother! It hurts. 🙂

That was moving my friend, very well written and the complete opposite to what you usually write.

I think it’s sad. 😥 but it’s also true–sometimes, people are abused and then become like their abuser. But the abused can’t see that at the time. It takes a lot of work to heal from being abused.

Very true. Abused folks often don’t abuse others, but continue to hurt themselves because that’s all they know and it’s what they feel they deserve. Sad.

This is wonderful – deeply moving. You are one talented guy. Having the ability to write high-quality posts in such different genres is admirable 🙂
Are you ACTUALLY God? haha 😉

Thank you for those kind words. I used to be god, but I gave it up for Lent one year and never looked back. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback. I always worry something like this might come off cheesy, which I wouldn’t want.

I know that feeling and especially with poetry it’s very difficult to be objective as the author of your own work (that’s my experience at least; part of the reason I blog as an alien and a beaver is that it gives me a face to hide behind;))
But rest assured, these poetic outings surely add an exciting dimension to your website. Keep ’em coming!
