“The poor are needy, pesky, and demanding,” Republican Texas Senator, Bill “Big Gun” McDraw said today, “and they smell bad. Now that we Conservatives control the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court, we believe it is time we speak out about our true feelings. Besides, why hide what everyone already knows, we truly, deeply, and honestly hate poor people. Not all poor people mind, just those we don’t have under our direct influence. Those working for pennies as our maids, gardeners, and nannies are just fine, at least the ones who don’t complain about their pay are. We do, unfortunately, need some of them. Otherwise, we’d have to get our hands dirty doing menial work. UNTHINKABLE! Jesus would kick our asses outta Christianity if we showed up to a Sunday service with soil under our nails or callouses on our hands. No. It’s poor people who want things like Medicare, Social Security, Obama Care, and food stamps that aggravate the bejesus outta us. They are a drain on our gross profits and require us to pay higher taxes. We just HATE taxes.
The demise of those earning below $20,000 a year would greatly benefit us. It would also make Jesus very, very happy. You see, Jesus only loves those who love themselves enough to not be poor. All were given the free will to choose not to be poor. Being poor is akin to being lazy, and being lazy is evil. Thus, the poor are evil and need to be eradicated. The Republican Party hereby declares to do all in its power to eliminate poverty in America by systematically wiping out every Government program that aids the poor in any way. Every single one of them. The only thing that can stop us is people gathering together and voting us out of office before we can do it. But, as the last election showed, there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell of that ever happening. God bless you Conservative America. God bless you one and all.”
I used to work in central Johannesburg – ”Downtown”.
I was returning to work after lunch one day and walked past a Rolls parked outside the Carlton Hotel ( super posh) that was sporting a bumper sticker that said, ”Fuck the Poor”!
I kid you not!

It was during the mid eighties when there was a lot of crap going down out here. Lot of heavy stuff with Apartheid ready to enter its death throes.
I was so gobsmacked I laughed out of shock.

Yeah. You must have seen a lot of shit being where you are. Beside reading about it, the best outside view I’ve ever had of Apartheid in South America was from a movie from the 80’s called “Dry White Season”. Donald Sutherland and Marlon Brando were in it. It simply horrified me seeing how people were treated. The world has a lot of fucked up shit in it. Being somewhat of a pessimist, I don’t see it improving any time soon, either.

Superb post, Jeff. Reading the comments between you, John, and others regarding why people, especially in the South, tend to vote against their best interests, I thought you might want to watch this excellent doc when you have the time. It will explain a lot. I saw both my ex husband, who was college educated, and my father, also well educated, get sucked into this vortex of fascist deceit.

I really enjoyed, if that’s the right word, the video, Victoria. Truthful, damning statement on corporate news media. So few Americans THINK. They’re just lulled into complacent zombie-like behavior whilst the real world happens around them. I do not have an optimistic outlook for the future of our nation. Our children and grand children will not look fondly back on us for leaving them the shit they’re going to inherit from us.

Jeff, thanks so much for taking the time to watch it. What really stood out was around the 30 minute marker where they talked about how they used fear to manipulate. Quote:
“The more afraid they are the more money they make.”
What’s interesting about this is that there are several peer-reviewed studies using fMRI scans showing that conservatives tend to have increased gray matter volume in their right amygdala (fear — negative emotions). It just so happens that most conservatives reside in the most religious states.
So it seems to me that they are not only deceiving them with propaganda in the media, which is influencing them to vote against their own best interests, the corporations which pretty much own our government now, are taking advantage of their brain signature (larger amygdala) to maintain and gain more wealth and power.

Yes. There’s a book I read a bit ago called “The Republican Brain: The Science of Why They Deny Science-and Reality” by a guy named Chris Mooney that talked about similar things. It’s a good read. You’d like it.

Jeff, you are awesome. I’m familiar with Mooney, but wow — you read that book. Very cool, very impressed. 😀

Oh. Another good book, though on a totally different topic, that you may like is “A Universe From Nothing” by Lawrence Krauss. Great book, and he’s a great guy. I’m sure you know who he is, but if you’ve not read that book, do so. It’s great.

And the Supreme Court has 5 conservative Christian judges on the bench. In two years we’ll have a Republican President and there we’ll be. Fascism by committee.

You have to go back a step to explain that. Who are the poor and the superstitious? Eton alumni don’t believe witch children steal souls in the middle of the night.

I’m totally lost. Witch children? Soul stealing? Capital Y symbols? Have I summoned Ronald Reagan’s spirit from the grave by bashing his old Party somehow? I can say this, but please, just keep it between us, I often poison the wells of christians in the middle of the night and steal their babies so I can make soup out of ’em. But soul stealin’? Hell, man, that’s just dirty.

Looking through the widest lense, one sees that America’s sunbelt contains the poorest states. This is not just because it costs less to live in a warmer climate. The Department of Agriculture, which measures poverty, found that every red state in a 2,500-mile stretch from Arizona to South Carolina along the southern tier had the highest poverty rates in the U.S. in 2011, between 17.9 and 22.8 percent.

The fools who posit conspiracy theories about how the rich and powerful are secretly trying to gain control of everything need to read all this. There is no need for conspiracy. It’s happening as it did in Nazi Germany. Power is being handed to the fascists right out in the open. Handed to them by the very people the rich and powerful see as a blight on “their” “christian” nation. I’m sickened by the spineless ignorance of my fellow countrymen for allowing this to happen. Liberty will soon be crushed under the expensive, theocratic boot of a Republican regime, and I’m watching it all happen right in front of me.

I keep wondering all thetime how they manage to do this. How do they get people to accept that their positions in life will never get better, they will do nothing for the poor…but still they vote for these people? Crazy.
LikeLike
It is crazy. They vote for them or they just don’t vote it seems. Only 37% of eligible voters voted in this last election. 37%. That’s horrible. There are no secret conspiracies going on in which the rich are trying to control everything. They’re doing it right out in the open and no one gives a shit.
