Omaha, Nebraska. A Christian militant group calling itself “Whites With Guns For Christ” is hosting a book burning/barbecue this Saturday in Omaha. The group hopes to eliminate 50 to 60 percent of all books in Nebraska with the word “evolution” in them with the event. Group spokesman, Thaddeus Dingledoddle, had this to say on the matter, “It’s all about love, people. Love. Love of Jesus. Love of guns. And love of America. Books that are about evolution or even mention evolution are evil and were written by people with sick, diseased minds. Since we can’t yet burn the people who write such garbage, we’ve chosen to burn their books instead. Only those who know the true love and the all-encompassing Grace of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, should be allowed to share their ideas in writing. It worked for Adolf, and it can work for us. Amen.”
Have you been reading Fahrenheit 451?
I like the idea of book burnings but I have books to burn. We could start with those silly devotionals

I love that book. I should burn it. It’s too radical. Great idea. Let’s have a bible/devotional burning. Just imagine the outcry from the sensitive christians:”Boo hoo hoo! Evil atheists are burning our bible. Boo hoo hoo!

You see a guy early in the morning in the bus with a devotional, I mean he could even continue to sleep till he gets to work.

I knew people who could sing while asleep during mass. I was one of them.

I on the other hand slept through many masses. There was no helping it

BORING as hell, weren’t they? If they tossed in some nude gals or something as alter babes, I’d be happy to return to the flock and stay awake at mass.
LikeLike
That may keep me awake for a few masses and then I will go back to sleeping

Yeah. You’re right. Never mind.

LOL — my older cousins used to bring a cough syrup bottle filled with vodka to mass. They did a lot of coughing during mass. 😀

They’re pacifists. They’re gonna have protest and refuse to eat the body of jeebus to show their anger.

That’s a quote from Tybalt to Mercutio in Shakespeare’s R&J.
It works here as well.

Indeed. “Madness in great ones/must not unwatched go!” Claudius about Hamlet in “Hamlet”. That too is fitting here.

Touché! My Friend. ‘Hamlet’ (especially Zeffirelli’s version) is my favorite today.
Somedays it is ‘Lear’. Somedays it is ‘Macbeth’. (Polanski’s)
Today: Hamlet.
Cheers!

Hamlet’s my favorite play of all time. Zeffirelli’s is really good, Richard Burton’s is too. My personal fav is Ken Branagh’s though I know not yours. I own 9 different versions of it. Patrick Stewart’s Macbeth is great as is Ian McKellan’s Lear. Love the bard!
LikeLike
I have P. Stewart’s version in my Amazon to watch list. Gonna check it out soon.
Olivier’s Lear is the only one I have seen in film, although I have seen Shakespeare in the Dallas Park versions. Love that as well.

I’d love to have seen the version of Macbeth Branagh did in Texas recently. I’ve seen him in Midsummer and Lear back in 89. Check out Ian McKellen’s Lear if you can. Amazon should have it to stream.

Love McKellen. Love Branagh. By the way, have you ever seen Branagh’s ‘Frankenstein’? With De Niro & H. Bonham Carter? Great film in my humble opinion.
I will definitely check out McKellen’s ‘Lear’. Thanks for pointing that one out to me.

I own most of Branagh’s films. Frankenstein is good. Dead Again is my favorite of his after Henry 5 and Hamlet.

I don’t think he does. To be honest, I don’t think he’s very bright. Doesn’t read enough, you know?

That’s a shame. What’s the point of burning books you haven’t even read? That’s like canceling a flight for fear of airplane food…

Yeah, I know…it is ironic though, that most people that burn books read only one…and it’s usually the crappiest one of all:s

Crappy is right. I’m reading “The Skeptics Annotated Bible” right now. It’s the King James Bible with skeptical notes in the margin. Lord, what a LONG boring-ass book the Bible is. I’ve read sections before, but not the whole thing front to back. BORING!!! But funny and informative annotations do abound in the Skeptic’s Bible.
LikeLike
I recommend cherry picking the book. Cherries are tasty, healthy, and don’t carry the risk of developing a foreskin fetish or a love of slavery that a full read does.
LikeLike
Oh, but the skeptic notes and comments are beautiful and shine a light on so much of the shit christians don’t want you to know about. Actually, most of them don’t know about it either. They just do as they’re told.
